From the beginning, the Oblate priests and Brothers in Sri Lanka, besides committing themselves to preaching the Word of God, have focused their attentionon education /teaching from primary to University levels since they considered education/ teaching as the key that would unlock life for the needy and the disadvantaged. They also committed themselves to promoting and nurturing genuinehuman, religious and spiritual values and virtues while maintaining discipline and decorum at all levels. The students who had been studying in St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna, St. Joseph College and St. Peter’s College, Colombo, St. Joseph’s College, Anuradhapura, Mazenod College, Kandana, St. Joseph’s College, Trincomalee and Aquinas University College, Colombo (to mention a few educational institutions which were under the Oblates) who have been guided by the Oblate educators/ teachers will certainly bear witness to the above-mentioned statements. The names of Oblate Priest Rectors /Principals,such Frs. Maurice J. Legoc OMI, Peter A. Pillai OMI, Basil Weeratunga OMI, C.S. Matthews OMI and Timothy Long OMI, who have been also great educationalists, have become household names in Sri Lanka.

Servire in amore = To serve in love
The Oblates dedicated to the ministry of education consider service as the inseparable twin of love. Therefore they will dedicate themselves to lead the children, the youth and their parents in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka to act with dignity as human beings, loving and respecting one another, therebymaintaining also equality among them. Since the students belonging to major Religious Faiths will also be beneficiaries of the services in Mazenod College, the Oblates educators / teachers will also try to enable them to embody in their lives the values and virtues of the Founders of their Religions.
We continue to touch the lives of families of the students who are mainly Buddhists. Every last Saturday of the month is a day dedicated to address the parents of the students. A month before we inaugurated the school, parents had their first meeting in Rajabima Centre on 8th of December, 2019. Mr. Benedict Perera, a veteran educationist spoke to the parents on the education system in our country and the fact that we need not only to form our children intellectually, but also to develop their skills and form them holistically.
I believe God’s powerful hand guiding us and Mother Mary and St. Eugene de Mazenod interceding for us.Hide
