The Mazenod English Institute (M.E.I.), Katuwapitiya is the parental house of late Fr. Tissa Balasuriya OMI who donated it to the Oblates and was later converted to be a house of studies by its founding director Rev. Fr. Dennis Iddamalgoda. The institute conducts residential English courses, catering to a timely need of our adolescents and youth after their Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations. English being the emphasis, it also invites, forms and orients the students for an integral formation with the basic human values and human formation.
Right now, four Oblates are on the tutorial staff and two fathers run the institute. The institute has the capacity of housing the maximum of hundred students at a time and the admission for each batch needs to be closed prematurely due to its rising demand. Therefore, the institute is compelled to follow the policy of “first come, first serve”.
Given the demand gathering momentum every day, the institute is open even to the future possibility of conducting classes for the adults and introducing IELTS for those who aspire to go abroad.
