Somapura is very small village located in Eastern province Sri Lanka.

Somapura has around 20 catholic families. It belong to Irudiyapuram parish. The faithful from Somapura practically speak Sinhala language. To the needs of the people more meaningfully, the Somapura mission was handed over to the Oblates in 2016.

Fr. Susith Randil OMI volunteered to take up the mission under the guidance of the Oblate province of Colombo.

Vision

To cater to their basic needs while organizing religious activities and letting them to participate in liturgical services in vernaculars.

Mission

To bring them closer to God through various encounters and prayers. (Sharings, Pilgrimages and Celebrations)

• There are many volunteers who assist the Oblates to carry out the mission more visibly.
• The Scholastics from Kandy are sent to Somapura for their pastoral training.
